Rudrama Devi Mahila Mandali (RDMM) was formed as an informal group in 2003, by the employees and a group of sex workers working within the Targeted Intervention (TI) projects around Warangal district in Telengana State in India. It works in both rural and urban areas of the district with a particular focus on enabling leadership development and good health of traditional sex workers in rural Warangal.
In 2004, the community organisation was registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act 2001. RDMM has a total of 1143 women in sex work as members.
RDMM aims to improve the health of female sex workers by raising awareness and providing services in sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention, minimising the violence and stigma through education and advocacy, and creating an enabling environment for members to access different social entitlements.
Over the years, RDMM in partnership with India HIV/AIDS Alliance, Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society and Swasti Health Resource Centre, Bangalore has provided a host of services to its members.
RDMM wants to grow into a resource centre with diversified activities supporting the economic and educational development of sex worker women.
