Navyasri is a sex worker led, volunteer based network of community organisations (COs) in Warangal district in Telengana State in India. As part of the interventions to prevent HIV/AIDS among high risk groups in the district, HIV/AIDS India Alliance partnered with Modern Architecture Rural India (MARI) and Sarvodaya Youth Organisation to form three Targeted Interventions (TIs). Navyasri was registered as a district level CO - a federation of the three TIs - in 2010.
With a total of 1554 sex worker members, Navyasri works in 13 blocks in the district to empower its members to secure their social, legal and financial security needs. It is registered as a society under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act 2001.
Navyasri aims to improve the lives of current and former sex workers and their families by addressing the social conditions that hinder their health and well-being, providing health, education and supportive services and advocating to secure the legal rights of sex workers.
Functioning as a catalyst to spur institutional development at the grassroot level, Navyasri works to improve the socio-economic condition of sex workers through variour initiatives.
Navyasri looks forward to emerging as a strong, district level, sex workers' led network and allying with other national and global networks working for the empowerment of sex workers.
