Introduction

Chandrodaya Social Welfare Society (CSWS) is a community organisation (CO) of female sex workers in Telengana State in India. Formed in 2010, the CO works with sex workers in Khammam, one of the most backward districts in the state. CSWS works through its community based groups of tribal and other vulnerable women in ten blocks. These groups are federated at the district level.

CSWS supports 1762 sex workers, mostly home based, in remote areas across ten blocks in Khammam. It is registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

Mission

CSWS aims to provide health and medical services and empower female sex workers to stand on their own two feet.

Services Provided

With a focus on empowering sex workers to realise their rights to equal life, CSWS provides the following services.

  • Generating awareness on health and rights through one to one and one to group outreach, community group meetings and events
  • Facilitating linkages with government departments and referral systems
  • Building the capacities of community members
  • Improving financial literacy of its members
  • Providing crisis redressal services

CSWS envisions a society, where the sex workers' realise their rights to equal life as others and where the members' children are not in sex work.
