Introduction

Idhayam Thirunangaigal Munnetra Sangam (ITMS) is a community organisation (CO) in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu State in India. Founded in 2012, it is a collective of marginalised transgender persons (TGs) and men having sex with men (MSM) in the district.

Idhayam Thirunangaigal Munnetra Sangam is registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 and has 706 members.

Mission

ITMS aims to address the developmental needs of its members through livelihood and civic initiatives, and create a distinct identity as a community institution that is owned, managed and run by the community.

Services Provided

The CO's services are focused on helping its members achieve socioeconomic empowerment.

  • Promoting microfinance activities to help members save and access credit
  • Providing exposure and skills training for livelihood development
  • Enhancing access to social protection schemes from the government
  • Implementing HIV prevention and care services including positive prevention, ART linkages, regular health check up
  • Training in legal aid and organising counselling sessions for women and adolescent girls and boys in distress

ITMS envisions creating a sustainable platform for MSM-TG members by building a corpus of Rs.25 lakhs, and ensuring socio-cultural recognition for its members.
