Introduction

Coimbatore Maavatta Thirunangaigal Nala Sangam (CMTNS) is a community organisation (CO) of transgender persons (TGs) and men having sex with men (MSM). Founded in 2007, CMTNS works to reduce the HIV impact among the TG and MSM communities in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu State in India.

The CO serves three types of vulnerable community groups - transgender persons, Kothi, and Double Duckers commonly known as MSM community. CMTNS is registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 and has 1088 members.

Mission

CMTNS aims to empower the most vulnerable transgender persons in society by ensuring their socioeconomic development, access to equal rights and social recognition.

Services Provided

CMTNS supports the communities with a range of services to help reduce their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.

  • Securing access to social protection schemes and entitlements from the government
  • Collaborating with private service providers to develop members' socioeconomic condition
  • Ensuring access to affordable financial services
  • Preventing violence and managing crises
  • Providing access to treatment for transgender persons living with HIV/AIDS
  • Strengthening the CO to better serve the members

CMTNS envisions to get more projects for the sustainability of the CO, own a building for office and build a training centre for the members.
