The community based organisation (CBO), which is registered with Aastha Parivaar, works in the Chembur, Trombay and Bhiwandi area with bar based and home based sex workers (SW).
They were registered on 11/09/2011.
Being home based, it poses great challenged for the CBO, as the SWs line in dear of being identifies. This means meetings have to be held secretly and health camps have to be carried out for even the general public. These health camps along with providing free medicines, they also provide Vitamin A supplements. Great emphasis is laid on networking with local bodies. Their vision is to provide good education for the children of the SWs and get PAN cards and Ration cards for all the members. They concentrate on linkages with hospitals and local doctor clinics for health camps and encourage regular screening and testing for HIV/ AIDS. They hold regular training sessions on various health and social issues. They provide condoms and also assist in obtaining of birth certificates and other important civic identities for enrolment in government schemes which provide subsidies in utility bills.They also collaborate with a college volunteer body that teaches their beneficiaries the skills of tailoring as well as the beauty procedures.
