Jeevandhara Mahila Samiti (JMS), founded in 2009, is a community organisation (CO) of female sex workers in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra State in India. It is a collective of women from economically backward families in the district.

JMS is registered under the Maharashtra Societies Registration Act,1860 and supports 799 members.


JMS aims to address the developmental needs of its members through livelihood and civic initiatives and create a distinct identity for itself as a community institution, owned, managed and run by the community.

Services Provided

JMS's varied services enable poor, destitute, widowed, and HIV/AIDS affected women and their family members live better lives.

  • Facilitating access to government welfare schemes, such as voter ID, ration card, old age and widow pension, marriage support for girls from poor families, Aadhar card for its members and their families.
  • Promoting microfinance Joint Liability Groups at the village level to facilitate financial planning and access to savings, credit and insurance for economic empowerment of deprived women members
  • Skill training, credit access and marketing support for livelihood promotion
  • Providing legal aid and counselling services for women, adolescent girls and boys in distress

JMS envisions that services provided by the CO will support children of members to continue education, old sex workers to have alternate livelihood options, better mechanism for members to address violence, and resource mobilisation to sustain the community organisation.
