Disha Mahila Bahuudeshiya Sanghatana (DMBS) is a community organisation (CO) of female sex workers in Nashik district of Maharashtra State in India. Founded in 2010, the CO works to empower sex workers in the district through holistic development intervention programmes.

DMBS is registered under the Maharashtra Societies Registration Act,1860 and has 889 members.


DMBS aims to improve legal literacy of members, enable their access to social entitlements, and build their skills in alternate livelihood options to help them lead violence free lives.

Services Provided

In its attempt to enable female sex workers to stand on their own two feet, the CO provides various services.

  • Facilitating access to government welfare schemes for members and their families 180 members accessed various schemes
  • Promoting access to savings, credit and insurance by mobilising women into microfinance self help groups. 230 members received help to open accounts
  • Training in different skills to support alternate livelihoods, 20 members received training on income generation activities
  • Conducting legal aid training and providing counselling services to better deal with distress, 45 members received basic legal training from District legal service authority.
  • Implementing HIV prevention programmes along with care and support services
  • Building financial literacy to increase member awareneess on prudent use of money

DMBS wants to work towards helping all community members access the services, helping their children with education, and have alternate livelihoods. CO envisioned to have sustainable systems to support crisis management and access to various services including Financial and social protection schemes
