Sadhane AIDS Tadegattuva Mahila Sangha (SATMS) is a community organisation (CO) of women in sex work in two districts of Shimoga and Bhadravati districts of Karnataka state in India.

Founded in 2004, the CO supports 1718 women in sex work and is registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960.


SATMS aims to respond to the needs of the female sex worker community, empower them and build their community organisations to help them lead lives of respect and dignity, and reduce stigma and discrimination against them.

Services Provided

SATMS's comprehensive range of interventions seeks to empower its members to lead better lives.

  • Building community awareness and influencing their health seeking behaviour through behaviour change communication and community dialogues
  • Strengthening clinics for sexually transmitted infections (STI) for testing and treatment
  • Promoting routine health check ups, refrerral and outreach clinics for partners and clients of sex workers
  • Ensuring free, direct supply and distibution of condoms
  • Providing HIV counselling, testing, and linkage for care and support
  • Ensuring regular contact and registration of new sex workers
  • Rehabilitating senior sex workers and providing STI and HIV services

SATMS envisions raising awareness and counselling the community to strengthen their collective action to protect women in sex work from HIV and reduce their vulnerabilities.
