Introduction

Jeevan Jyothi Mahila Abhiruddhi Samasthe (JJMAS) was founded in 2012 to empower women in sex work socially, economically and politically. The community organisation (CO) was established to create an enabling environment to reduce the HIV prevalence among sex workers in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka State in India.

The CO supports 3497 women in sex work and is registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960.

Mission

JJMAS aims to work for the overall development of the community of women in sex work and their children.

Services Provided

JJAMS provides different services to reverse the epidemic among the community of women in sex work in the district.

  • Providing HIV prevention and care services
  • Developing the linkages with government and non-government stakeholders for better effectiveness of its programme
  • Helping members access better safety, security and justice measures to deal with crises
  • Strengthening institutional development of the community organisation to better serve its members

The CO envisions to build an effective, results based and sustainable model for HIV prevention to halt and reverse the HIV/AIDS epidemic among female sex workers in Kalaburagi district.
