Durgashakti AIDS Tadegattuva Mahila Sangha (DATMS) is a community organisation (CO) of women in sex work in Davanagere district of Karnataka State in India.

DATMS, founded in 2003, is registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960. The CO has 1783 members and started implementing targeted intervention servcies since 2011.


DATMS aims to prevent violence against women in sex work, reduce stigma/discrimination against them, and work for their socio-economic, political and cultural empowerment.

Services Provided

DATMS provides following services to empower its members.

  • Providing STI check-up and treatment services and building health awareness so as to prevent new infections among the members
  • Organising women to strengthen their collective action
  • Supporting people living with HIV with home visits and other services
  • Facilitating community access of government social protection schemes
  • Promoting safety, security and justice measures through effective crisis response systems, access to legal services and linkages for trauma relief
  • Providing health and other need based services through drop-in-centres

The organization aimed to provide all kinds of support and guidence to community women so that they would lead quality life and would not become victim of social stigma and discrimination. The community women would also do not become victim to HIV infection thus regular awareness building takes place at different level
