Jeevanarekha Mahila Samakhya (JMS) is a community organisation (CO) of female sex workers in Vijayawada and Krishna districts in Andhra Pradesh State in India. The CO was founded in 2007 with the objective of empowering the most vulnerable community for prevention of HIV /AIDS, and welfare of the community members and HIV positive children.
Jeevanarekha supports 1775 women in sex work and is registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act 2001.
JMS aims to increase the self-confidence of its members by providing socioeconomic, livelihood, health and legal support, and education support to their children; provide nutritional support to people living with HIV; and be a financially self sustaining organisation without dependence on other institutions.
True to the meaning of its name Jeevanarekha, 'ray of hope', JMS serves its members with a host of initiatives.
Jeevanarekha envisions that in the next five years, all the registered members of the CO resolve to fulfil their economic needs on their own and focus on their children's education.
