Introduction

Jeevana Jyothi Women Welfare Society (JJWWS), a community organisation (CO) founded in 2004 works with female sex workers in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh State in India. Their work is focused in and around Madanapalle city, which is a central market place with high volume of business and proximity to Bengaluru. Most women they work with are inbound migrants engaged in sex work along with other jobs.

JJWWS supports 1048 female sex workers and is registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act 2001.

Mission

JJWWS aims to address the development needs of its members through livelihood and civic initiatives and create a distinct identity for itself as a community owned, led and managed institution.

Services Provided

JJWWS works towards empowering its women members through various initiatives that addresses their vulnerabilities.

  • Promoting safety, security and justice measures through effective crisis response systems, access to legal services and linkages for trauma relief
  • Building financial security by facilitating bank linkages, and access to insurance and pension schemes
  • Increasing member awareness about their rights as sex workers
  • Implementing HIV prevention and care services including positive prevention, ART linkages, regular health check up
  • Enhancing access to social protection schemes from the government
  • Investing in institutional development through resource mobilisation, membership drives, partnership with government and non-governmental organisations and ensuring statutory compliance

The CO envisions a collective of empowered women living a life of dignity and rights.
