Ankitha Women's Development Organisation (AWDO) is a community based organisation devoted to the marginalised and underprivileged women in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh State in India. Being a community organisation (CO), the sense of ownership and a deep understanding of the real issues of the target population, female sex workers, are the strengths of the organisation.
Established in 2003, AWDO is registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act 2001. It supports 1438 women in sex work.
Ankitha aims to empower the marginalised women through holistic development intervention programmes such as women empowerment & economic development through microfinance, livelihood promotion through skill training, facilitating access to government schemes, and providing HIV/AID prevention & care, and legal aid and counselling services.
To fulfil its objective of addressing the developmental needs of its members through livelihood and civic initiative and create a distinct identity for itself as a community institution, owned, managed and run by the community, Ankitha provides a range of services.
Ankitha is working towards being a self reliant and self sustainable organisation with vibrant community membership and democratic leadership providing services to empower its members.
