Swasti, in corsortium with Vrutti, CMS and Fuzhio, leads the Avahan III initiative and works with 84 Community Organizations comprising of community members from the most marginalized. With a member base of 1,21,000+ members, and still counting, the community organizations are vibrant and unique in nature.
The Avahan India AIDS Initiative, funded by BMGF (since 2003) is focussed on HIV prevention among key population (female sex workers, men having sex with men, transgender people and people who inject drugs). Avahan made some strategic choices in India which proved to be critical and overall.
Avahan’s Phase I and II
Most importantly, the six states where implemented, have all shown a reversal of HIV infection trends.
The current programme, Avahan III (2014-2017) is funded by BMGF and led by Swasti in 5 States of India - Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telengana, Karnataka and Maharashtra and focuses on sustaining the impact of Avahan I & II.
